Asbestos analysis for you in Paris
Haussmann buildings with modern layers
Much of central Paris is made up of 19th-century stone apartment buildings. The stone and timber themselves are not the concern; what matters is what was added later. Over the 20th century many of these flats got new kitchens, bathrooms and floor coverings, and some of those materials, such as vinyl tiles, flooring adhesive, filler and tile adhesive, may contain asbestos if they were installed before it was phased out. So the age of the building tells you little. The question is when the surface you want to remove was put in.
Post-war blocks around the city
Beyond the Périphérique, many suburbs grew quickly after the war with large housing estates and tower blocks from the 1950s to the 1970s. These were built in exactly the period when asbestos-containing building products were widely used across Europe. If you own or rent a flat in one of these buildings and plan to lift a floor or take down tiles, test the materials first. Remember that common parts, risers and façades are the responsibility of the building management, so talk to them before work on anything outside your own flat.
