From your country

Sending samples from elsewhere in the EU

You order online, pay by card and send the samples by post to our laboratory in Espoo, Finland.

  • Send the samples with your national postal service as a letter or small parcel. Postage is not included in the price.
  • Only send firmly bound material, such as tiles, tile adhesive, filler, putty or asbestos cement. Loosely bound, dusty material such as pipe insulation or sprayed asbestos must not be sent by post.
  • Pack each sample in two resealable plastic bags and enclose the printed sample form.
  • Write FINLAND on the last line of the address. The parcel is usually in transit for a few working days, and we usually analyse the sample on the day it arrives.

Packing tips

Packing instructions

The right sample size

About 2–3 cm is ideal (a piece roughly the size of a matchbox). A sample that is too small can make the analysis harder. But a large piece is not needed – a small piece is plenty for JEOL SEM-EDS analysis.

Secure packaging

Use a resealable plastic bag (zip-lock or similar). Make sure the bag is properly sealed and place it inside a second bag – especially if the material crumbles.

Several samples

Pack each sample in its own bag. Note clearly where each sample was taken. The samples can be sent in the same parcel as long as they are in separate bags.

Sending by post

Send the asbestos sample with your national postal service as a letter or small parcel – check which option your postal service accepts for small items going abroad. For small samples a padded envelope is enough; pack larger samples in a small box.

Avoid mistakes

Common mistakes when sending samples

Sample without a label

Always label the bag with the material and the sampling location. Without a label we do not know which material the sample represents.

Sample too small

Make sure the sample is at least 1–2 cm in size. A tiny crumb or a speck of dust is not always enough for a reliable analysis.

Open or damaged packaging

Seal the plastic bag carefully. Fibres can escape from an open bag – that is not safe and can contaminate other samples.

Several samples in the same bag

Pack each sample in its own bag. If different materials are in the same bag, the analysis results cannot be told apart.
