Do-it-yourself sampling

Take an asbestos sample yourself – simple and affordable

In most cases you can take the asbestos sample yourself and send it to the laboratory for analysis. It is a quick and affordable way to find out whether a suspect material contains asbestos.

Why it works

Why is a sample you take yourself enough in most cases?

The laboratory does the analysis, not the person taking the sample

The quality of an asbestos analysis depends on the laboratory and its analysis technique – not on who took the sample. When Semlab analyses your sample with a JEOL SEM-EDS electron microscope, the result is just as reliable whoever took the sample.

Cost-effective

Taking the sample yourself saves you a surveyor's travel and sampling costs. You only pay for the laboratory analysis – €49.99 incl. VAT per sample. The same price applies to every sample up to 100 samples.

Equipment

What do you need to take the sample yourself?

FFP3 mask

Protects your airways from asbestos fibres. An ordinary face mask is not enough.

Nitrile gloves

Disposable gloves protect you from direct contact with the material.

Zip-lock bags

One per sample. Seal it straight after taking the sample.

Knife or chisel

For prising off the sample. Do not sand or drill.
